Science Based Target initiative

Validation of emission reduction targets

In February 2024, the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) validated Cementir's near and long-term decarbonization targets aligned with the 1.5° framework scenario. In addition, SBTi also approved Cementir’s overall net-zero emissions target by 2050.

MSCI ESG Ratings

Rating A

In September 2023, the MSCI ESG rating upgraded the rating of Cementir to A (scale AAA - CCC).
MSCI ESG Research provides ESG ratings to global public companies and some private companies based on their exposure to industry-specific ESG risks and their ability to manage those risks relative to peers.

Europe’s Climate Leaders for 2024

In April 2024, Cementir has been recognized as Europe’s Climate Leaders for 2024. This annual Financial Times and Statista survey lists the 600 European companies that have made the most progress in cutting their carbon emissions intensity over a five-year period.

Rating A-

In September 2023 Refinitiv assigned Cementir an A- rating with a score of 76/100, ranking 10th out of a total of 119 companies in the Construction Materials sector.

In January 2023 ISS ESG assessed Cementir C+ Prime. Companies are categorized as Prime if they achieve/exceed the sustainability performance requirements (Prime threshold) defined by ISS ESG for a specific industry (absolute best-in-class approach) in the ESG Corporate Rating.

Rating 22.3 (Medium Risk) 

In October 2024, Cementir improved its ESG Risk Rating to 22.3 and was assessed by Morningstar Sustainalytics to be at Medium risk of experiencing material financial impacts from ESG factors. This places Cementir 7th out of 134 construction materials companies assessed worldwide by Sustainalytics.

Partnerships and associations

Cementir actively participates in international associations and organisations promoting sustainable business practises, with the objective of tackling climate change and the socio-economic pressures affecting the cement sector. Main topics include climate change, sustainable infrastructure, innovation and digital transformation, operational efficiency, health and safety, the circular economy, alternative fuels and waste management.

 

Cembureau

Through Cembureau, the European cement association, Cementir is directly involved in various working groups, including the one for the elaboration of a system revision proposal (ETS) for the allocation of CO₂ quotas and for legislation on sustainable construction, as well as providing feedback to the European Commission regarding the EU Taxonomy.

 

Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA)

Cementir is a member of the Global Cement and Concrete Association, whose purpose is to interact with international institutions and the most important stakeholders so that cement and concrete are recognized as indispensable elements for achieving the goals of sustainable development and to coordinate the efforts of the building industry to improve and innovate their production processes.
The GCCA works closely with existing national and regional associations.
Through the GCCA, in 2019 Cementir joined Innovandi, a network that connects the cement industry with scientific institutions to promote innovation and collaborate on innovative research projects to support the decarbonisation of the industry.

 

European Cement Research Academy (ECRA)

Cementir is a member of the European Cement Research Academy, whose most important research project concerns the application of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies.
