Our ambition is to progressively reduce the intensity of CO₂ emissions until carbon neutrality is reached by 2050.

Cementir ambition to 2050

We are committed to Roadmap to Net Zero by 2050, together with the world's leading cement and concrete companies, as member of both the European Cement Association (CEMBUREAU) and the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA).

CO₂ emissions can be reduced by acting at every stage of the value chain - clinker, cement, concrete, construction and (re) carbonation - to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. This will require a series of concrete actions such as optimization of existing technologies to replace fossil fuels with biomass and increase the efficiency of furnaces, the development of FUTURECEM®, the optimization of concrete mixes and construction techniques and the use of innovative technologies such as carbon capture.

Our objectives to 2030

The Roadmap to 2030 has been updated and includes objectives to further reduce Scope 1 CO2 emissions by 36%1  to 458 kg per ton of grey cement, a lower emission level than the threshold imposed by the European Taxonomy. For white cement, a niche product for specific applications, the plan is to reduce emissions by 19%1 to 737 kg per ton by 2030. Since 2021 our emission reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and from February 2024 they have been deemed consistent with the 1.5°C  scenario.
