CCB takes advantage of river transport for aggregates shipments
400,000 tonnes of aggregates shipped by water in 2019! A record for CCB which continues to believe that river transport represents a real model for the future.
The use of river transport has experienced strong growth at CCB in Belgium. CCB Granulat exceeded the symbolic bar of 400,000 tonnes of aggregates shipped by water in 2019, thereby increasing the quantities transported in previous years by more than 20%.
One of CCB's biggest customers is the De Hoop group, based in Terneuzen (NL) with more than 40 subsidiaries based mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands, active in the production and trading of construction materials.
Benno Groeneweg, Director of Building Materials De Hoop: “an average barge of 1,500 tonnes carries as much as 50 trucks. By thus transporting the aggregates from CCB to our customers, we are helping to reduce our ecological footprint. The pleasant and professional cooperation with CCB allows us to always fine-tune arrival and loading times with our boatmen, so that an efficient supply chain is guaranteed. We look forward to continuing this cooperation in the future. "
With boats that can reach a transport capacity of 1,800 T and more than 1,500 km of inland waterways in Belgium, this transport model represents a particularly attractive alternative for businesses, from an economic, logistical and environmental.
To date, CCB supplies three markets by water: Belgium, France (Île-de-France and Picardy) and the Netherlands.
River transport therefore represents a real model for the future, capable of offering good commercial prospects and particularly suitable to reduce the environmental impact on the territory.
