The EU Innovation Fund confirms EUR 220 million funding for ACCSION project
Today the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has officially confirmed the EU Innovation Fund grant of EUR 220 million to support the development of Cementir CO2 capture plant in Aalborg, Denmark.
This project, under the name ACCSION, aims to create one of Europe's first fully integrated onshore CCS value chains and it would be the first EU cement plant capable of producing both grey and white net-zero cements. Once operational, the plant will reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5 million tons annually, enabling Aalborg Portland to achieve CO2 neutrality for its Scope 1 emissions.
Francesco Caltagirone Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cementir Holding, commented:
”This project reinforces our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Carbon capture plays a vital role in our strategy to reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to the transition towards a low-carbon economy. Through this project we aim to set a benchmark for the cement industry, while supporting global climate targets.”
